The optional ripper chank or sub soiler, is recommended for stoney or hard conditions. It is made of 1 inch by 4 inch steel and is reversible for extra wear with a hard surfaced point.

With optional side arms the ditcher can be converted to a tool to make ridges for tree or vegetation planting. Combined with the ripper shank it is an ideal tool to prepare a site for tree planting. The ripper shank can break up the subsoil to enhance root development for the trees to be planted.
